Remarks

Contemporary design meets the ageless beauty of the natural landscape in the most northern Appalachians. Easy commute to Montréal or Sherbrooke, close to the Eastern Townships' beloved lakes Memphrémagog, Bonne Allée, Nick and Trouser. Ski Orford or Owl's Head from your weekend retreat or make this your home for all seasons.

The Site: The topography of this vale, the view to Orford and the movement of the sun determined the position of the house and the south-east orientation of its principal façade. Superb landscaping that appears uncontrived yet is well-considered in its elements: rock, water features and plantings complementing one another harmoniously.

Materials and Design: Glass, naturally aging steel, galvanized steel and cedar used to reflect the soul and character of the rural buildings of the area and the natural environment. Large, well-placed windows frame the landscape, bringing nature into your living spaces and perfectly complementing the volume of the rooms. Note that Corten steel oxidizes on the surface only, aging well with no compromise to the structure. Architect: Glenn Peterson.

The Features: Open plan, soaring ceilings. Three 12' high windows add drama to the minimalist décor of the living room. Functional and convivial kitchen with cherry and stainless counters shares the main living area. Zen master bath, the width of the house, with slate shower, bath and horizontal eye-level windows on the surrounding forests and mountain slopes. Custom cabinetry. Walk-out lower level. Inground pool and the pool house are another delight as a centre of al fresco activities.

12 ch. du Plateau has been featured in articles in Architecture Habitat et Espace Vital, 100 Maisons contemporaines (2006), in Plaisirs de Vivre 2004 September issue and in Vivre Ici et Là 2010.

Inclusions:  Kitchen appliances, built-in BBQ.
Exclusions:  All art pieces both inside and outside, furniture and personal effects, chandeliers in the pool house.
